ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Arthur D. Willis received his B.A. in political science
and history from Northwestern University and a MAT in history from
the University at Albany, SUNY. He has taught Social Studies and
English at Arlington Heights High School in Illinois and at the
Oakwood School in Poughkeepsie, New York. He was one of the founders
of the Leysin American School in Leysin Switzerland, where he designed
curriculum for both the English and Social Studies departments.
He has chaired social studies departments in the public schools
of Vorrheesville, New York and Rhinebeck New York.
Art has been a consultant at the University at Albany, SUNY, training
teachers in writing and literary ideology. These two groups spawned
the Capital District Writers Project and the Literary Ideology
Project respectively. He has also worked with the education department
at the University at Massachusetts, Amherst, where he helped establish
the National Alternative Program.
Art currently resides in the capital region of New York State, and
has five children and six grandchildren. He is also a published
poet.
Marcia M. Greenberg received her B.A. in early European
History from Mount Holyoke College and has an M.A. in special education
from the University at Albany, SUNY. She has worked for St Anns
School in Albany, New York, teaching math and GED preparation to
emotionally challenged students. She has also helped create programs
for developmentally delayed infants and toddlers; tutored all four
core subjects for grades 7-12 and helped establish a gifted and
talented program for elementary school students, as well as working
in the Reading Partners project, an after school reading program,
designed to help elementary students with reading problems.
Marcia has also worked at the University at Albany graduate program
in special education and was an adjunct professor, where she helped
develop a practicum course for uncertified graduate students based
on the Reading Partners model.
Marcia resides in the capital region of New York State and she and
her husband have four children and six grandchildren.
About the Illustrator:
Sandra Peterson received her formal training at the American
Academy of Art in Chicago and at Northern Illinois University. Her
paintings have been shown at many juried and group exhibitions,
including The Art Institute of Chicago, the Cudahy Gallery of Wisconsin
Art at the Milwaukee Art Museum and at the Bradley Gallery in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. Sandra has also taught at Gateway Technical Institute
and at McHenry County College. In addition Sandra helps run and
is a co-owner of two art galleries in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
Sandra and her family reside in Door County Wisconsin.
